WARSAW, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Tuesday that a parliamentary vote of confidence in his government will be held on June 11. The announcement follows the victory of opposition-backed candidate Karol Nawrocki in Sunday's presidential election.

Speaking ahead of a cabinet meeting, Tusk said the vote would mark a "new opening" and serve as an opportunity to reassess the government's performance since taking office after the October 2023 parliamentary elections.

"We know well after this one and a half years that some things can be done better, faster," Tusk said. "The vote of confidence should be a new opening, and therefore offensive, not defensive."

He added that the outcome would be followed by a periodic assessment of the government's work, including individual ministries. "Changes will follow, as already discussed."

Originally scheduled for June 10, the vote was postponed to June 11 due to a planned visit by European Commission representatives to the Sejm, Poland's lower house of parliament.

Tusk also addressed the implications of the presidential election result. "The political reality is new because we will have a new president, but the constitution has not changed, our obligations have not changed, and the expectations of citizens have not changed," he said.

The ruling coalition led by Tusk currently holds 242 out of 460 seats in the Sejm.
