KATHMANDU, May 12 (Xinhua) -- A French climber died on Mount Kanchenjunga last week during an ascent of the world's third-tallest peak, the expedition's organizer said on Monday.
Margareta Morin, 63, seemed to suffer from high altitude sickness after reaching 7,800 meters of the 8,586-meter mountain on May 10, said Yogendra Tamang, founder and CEO of Peak 15 Adventure.
"We tried to rescue her by bringing her down from the mountain, but we could not save her life," Tamang told Xinhua.
Morin was part of a five-member expedition which featured three Nepalis, noted Tamang.
An American climber died on the world's fifth-tallest mountain Makalu earlier this month in the course of acclimatization.
Climbing activities started in April and run through May in Nepal during the spring climbing season. ■
