Captain of cargo ship charged over deadly North Sea collision

LONDON, March 14 (Xinhua) -- The captain of the cargo ship involved in the fatal collision in the North Sea has been charged with gross negligence manslaughter, British media reported on Friday.

According to BBC reports, Humberside Police confirmed that 59-year-old Vladimir Motin has been remanded in custody and is set to appear at Hull Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

One crew member remains missing and is presumed dead following the collision on Monday. A total of 36 people were rescued, with one individual taken to hospital.

The incident occurred near the coastal city of Hull and involved the U.S.-registered oil tanker Stena Immaculate and the Portuguese-flagged cargo vessel Solong.
