PRAGUE, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- An event on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) was held here Thursday to promote wellness and cultural exchange, while celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Czech Republic.
Speaking at the event, Chinese Ambassador to the Czech Republic Feng Biao said that the Chinese government attaches importance to promoting TCM, benefiting more people and fostering exchanges and mutual learning among different civilizations.
Ludmila Bendova, founder of the First School of TCM in Prague where the event was held, noted that over the past 34 years, her school has trained nearly 10,000 TCM students.
"Health is a goal everyone strives for. Today's event is meaningful as it allows us to share health information in various forms," she said.
The event brought together nearly 100 TCM enthusiasts, and several local people shared their experiences in learning TCM, using it to treat illnesses, and pursuing careers in the field.
"We meet here to share experiences together," said Zdenek Chmelka, a TCM student. He described the event as both interesting and inspiring, saying that studying TCM has not only enriched his life but also provided him with a way to help others.
Judita Halvova, who has been studying TCM for some 20 years and now works as a TCM practitioner, said Chinese medicine is "a gift" for her.
"Chinese medicine is very good at curing chronicle disease. I visited China many times and studied with a Chinese professor. For me, it is really an honor to be a practitioner and help people," she said.
Guan Xin, director of the Czech-Chinese Center for TCM Development, said as a TCM doctor he has observed a growing demand for TCM among the Czech public over the past eight years.
"The public's need for TCM remains significant, which indicates that TCM has tremendous development potential not only in the Czech Republic but also across Europe," he said, noting that the event allowed the participants to experience TCM concepts up close, and in turn, appreciate the essence of Chinese culture.
During the event, some participants also presented performances of traditional Chinese music and demonstrated traditional Chinese exercises such as Tai Chi. ■
