SARAJEVO, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- The public services digitalization department of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and representatives of the EU delegation to BiH reviewed on Wednesday the progress in the country's digital transformation in line with EU accession process.
It involves implementing innovative technologies, enhancing infrastructure, strengthening cybersecurity, and providing advanced digital services to citizens, according to the Agency for the Identification of Documents, Registers, and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IDDEEA).
The two sides highlighted the successful implementation of the qualified electronic signature system (e-signature), now available to all BiH citizens.
Almir Badnjevic, director of the IDDEEA emphasized the importance of projects like the Digital ID Wallet (e-wallet), developed under the European Digital Identity Regulation (EIDAS 2), to further streamline access to public and private services.
Luigi Soreca, head of the EU delegation to BiH, stressed that digitalizing public services is a key reform on BiH's European path, greatly benefiting citizens and businesses.
BiH joined the EU's Digital Europe Program in May 2024, gaining access to 7.5 billion euros (7.9 billion U.S. dollars) in funding for introducing digital IDs, cybersecurity, skills development, and emerging technologies.
The European Council has decided to open accession negotiations with BiH in March of this year, marking a new phase in European integration for the country. ■
