SARAJEVO, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) amounted to 1.89 billion KM (1.07 billion U.S. dollars) in 2023, marking an increase of 24.9 percent over 2022, according to data from the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) on Tuesday.
The upward trend in reinvested earnings by foreign-owned companies continued in 2023, along with growth in equity investments and a significant rise in other forms of capital investment, according to the central bank.
The most substantial investments were in the production of coke and refined petroleum products, followed by financial services, and telecommunications.
Although foreign investor confidence in BiH has been growing in recent years, a series of reforms are necessary to attract more substantial foreign investments in the future, according to BiH's Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA).
Meanwhile, the total outflow of investments abroad surged to 206.4 million KM in 2023, marking a 133.3 percent increase from 2022. (1 KM = 0.57 U.S. dollar) ■
