KIEV, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree to enforce a decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) on the creation of new forces in charge of drone warfare, the General Staff of the Ukrainian army said on Wednesday.
The new unit, the Unmanned Systems Forces, will be a branch of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, according to the General Staff.
On Tuesday, the NSDC supported the government's proposal to create the Unmanned Systems Forces, saying that the move aimed at enhancing the capabilities of Ukraine's army amid the conflict with Russia.
According to Ukrainian officials, this year, the country plans to produce between 1 million and 2 million FPV (first-person view) drones, as well as about 10,000 medium-range and more than 1,000 long-range combat drones. ■
