WARSAW, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Monday the introduction of a buffer zone along the Polish-Belarusian border.

Tusk made the announcement at a press conference after a government meeting held in Bialystok in northeastern Poland.

"We have passed a resolution, as a result of which the interior ministry will issue a decree on the establishment of a buffer zone on the border with Belarus," Tusk said.

The move aims to make it difficult for illegal migrants to cross the border and to establish better conditions for border guards, police and soldiers, he added.

According to Tusk, the buffer zone would cover a stretch of several dozen kilometers and reach a depth of around 200 meters.
