BAKU, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Five employees of the shipyard operated by the Azerbaijan Caspian Sea Shipping Company died from gas poisoning, the company's press service confirmed on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on Monday in which four workers went missing from their duties.
Namig Yolchuyev, who was also on duty, ventured to search for them but succumbed to the gas upon entering the pump compartment, adding another casualty to the already grim situation, local media reported.
Emergency teams from the Ministry of Emergency Situations swiftly responded to the scene but were unable to save the trapped workers. Their bodies were later recovered from the site.
Investigations into the cause of the gas leak were currently underway. ■
