ST. PETERSBURG, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- The local Hermitage Museum has spent over 100 million rubles (about 1 million U.S. dollars) to purchase more than 700 exhibition pieces in 2023, the museum's General Director Mikhail Piotrovsky said Tuesday.

Marina Blyumin, head of the Hermitage's new acquisitions sector, told a press conference that 673 works of art and 43 archival documents have been added to the museum's collection this year. Among the new acquisitions were a collection of antique shoes, paintings, sculptures and applied art.

Piotrovsky said that most of the money used to purchase these pieces did not come from the state budget, but from the Hermitage's earnings, patrons of the arts and endowment capital.
