THE HAGUE, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- At least one person was killed by fallen trees in the Netherlands on Thursday as storm Ciaran battered the country and caused damage.

In Venray, a small town in the Dutch province of Limburg, one person died due to a fallen tree, local media reported.

Several people were injured in similar accidents as the storm wreaked havoc across the country.

Hundreds of flights have been canceled. The port of Rotterdam has closed several large terminals and shipping on the canals has been halted.

Dutch weather institute KNMI has issued code orange for the coastal province of Zeeland. This warning also applied to the coastal areas of South Holland and North Holland.

Code orange is the second highest warning level of the KNMI, meaning a chance of heavy gusts of wind up to 110 kilometers per hour, and high risk of accidents due to blown-over trees and fallen branches.
