FRANKFURT, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- German carmaker Mercedes-Benz published its third quarter (Q3) 2023 sales results on Tuesday and reported strong growth in its electric vehicle (EV) sales. For its top-end models, China remains a significant market.

The company sold 61,600 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in quarter Q3, up 66 percent year-on-year, and 3,700 EQS SUVs, up 162 percent year on year.

For the first nine months of this year, Mercedes-Benz almost doubled its passenger car EV sales.

The overall sales, however, slid slightly by 4 percent to 510,600 units in Q3, due mainly to the sales of its top-end products, which plunged by 11 percent to 69,900 units.

The company's sales in China remained steadfast.

In Q3, both the G-Class and the Mercedes-Maybach broke new records, with sales in China increasing by 35 percent and 30 percent, respectively. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class also remained a dominant player in the Chinese market, posting a notable 9 percent growth and securing a market share of over 50 percent within its segment. This strong performance in China comes despite a global decline in S-Class sales by 18 percent in Q3.
