PARIS, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- The year-on-year consumer price index (CPI) in France is expected to grow 4.9 percent in September, the French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) said in its preliminary report on Friday.

In August, the revised CPI growth was also 4.9 percent in the country.

"The year-on-year moderation in the prices of services and food and manufactured products is expected to be offset by increasing energy prices, especially those of petroleum products," the INSEE said.

The French government announced in July that the regulated price of electricity would increase by 10 percent from Aug. 1, for both households and small businesses. Thus, for September, the INSEE noted that energy prices should continue to increase by 11.5 percent, after a 6.8 percent increase in August.

To mitigate the consequences of high energy prices, French President Emmanuel Macron said he would ask the fuel industry to set fuel prices at cost level.

The increase in food prices is expected to slow to 9.6 percent in September, from 11.2 percent registered in August.
