LONDON, July 6 (Xinhua) -- An eight-year-old child was killed after a car crashed into a school building in Wimbledon, southwest London, the Metropolitan Police (Met) said here on Thursday.
Six other children and two adults were injured in the incident when a Land Rover crashed into the Study Preparatory School on Camp Road in the morning, the Met said.
Police described it as a major incident but were not treating it as terror-related.
Detective Chief Superintendent Clair Kelland, local police commander for southwest London, said: "This is tragic news, and our thoughts are with the girl's family and friends, and everyone affected today."
Kelland said that the driver of the vehicle, a woman aged in her 40s, had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. ■
