STOCKHOLM, May 31 (Xinhua) -- A Delta Air Lines plane bound for New York had to return to Arlanda Airport north of the Swedish capital on Wednesday following a bird strike during takeoff.
The Boeing 760 carrying nearly 180 passengers and crew had to jettison fuel over the Baltic Sea before returning to Arlanda, a police spokesperson told Swedish Television (SVT).
The emergency services were set on high alert, but the plane landed safely at around 11:30 a.m. local time, according to Swedavia, the company running the airport.
"The landing went ahead without problems and the plane will be checked for airworthiness while the passengers are re-booked," Peter Warring, a Swedavia press spokesperson, told SVT. ■
