FRANKFURT, April 5 (Xinhua) -- In March, 281,361 new passenger vehicles were registered in Germany, a 16.6 percent increase year-on-year, the country's Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) said on Wednesday.
The number of new commercial registrations increased by 25.3 percent in March, while private new registrations were up 2.1 percent.
According to KBA's data, almost all German brands reported increased sales in March. Only Ford saw a decline in new registrations. By contrast, the VW brand claimed the largest share of new registrations.
Of the new registrations, 15.7 percent (44,125 units) were battery electric vehicles (BEVs), a 28 percent increase year-on-year. According to the KBA, 84,029 new cars had a hybrid drive system.
In the commercial vehicle market, there was a growth in all vehicle classes, with the most significant increase in semitrailer tractors (+36.3 percent). In March, 32,834 new motorcycles were registered, 8.9 percent more than in the same month of last year. ■
