LISBON, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Portuguese government approved on Wednesday the "Environment+Simple" project, which will simplify environmental licensing processes to boost green energy production.

According to the bill approved by the Portuguese Council of Ministers, authorizations, procedures and licenses will be eliminated to facilitate activities of green energy producers, encourage investment, as well as to reduce bureaucracy and slash administrative costs.

By simplifying the process, Portugal aims to speed up its energy transition, further decarbonize the economy, accelerate circular economy and reduce bureaucracy in the public administration, said Prime Minister Antonio Costa.

Minister of Environment and Climate Action Duarte Cordeiro said Portugal wants to be a producer -- and not just a consumer -- of green hydrogen.

The simplification of green hydrogen licensing, one of the measures presented within the framework of the "Environment+Simple" project, will accelerate such transformation, said Cordeiro.
