Bosnia elects new speaker of lower house of Parliament

SARAJEVO, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on Thursday elected Denis Zvizdic speaker of the country's House of Representatives.

At the same session, Marinko Cavara was elected first deputy speaker and Nebojsa Radmanovic second deputy speaker.

Zvizdic, 58, was a member of the House of Representatives between 2018 and 2022. He also served as the prime minister of Sarajevo Canton from 2003 to 2006, and as chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH from 2015 to 2019. In November 2021, he joined the center-right Bosniak People and Justice (NIP) party.

Cavara is a member of the Croatian Democratic Union of BiH (HDZ), a Christian-democratic, nationalist political party, while Radmanovic is a member of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), the strongest Serb political party in BiH.

The House of Representatives is the lower house of Parliament. It has 42 members.
