MOSCOW, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Russia's nuclear-powered icebreaker Ural started a sea trial on Friday, Russia's United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) announced.

After the ship left the outfitting embankment of the Baltic Shipyard, part of the USC, specialists will check the operation of its mechanisms and equipment for the next three weeks, a USC statement said.

Ural is the third vessel of Russia's Project 22220 universal nuclear-powered icebreakers, which the company said are the largest and most powerful icebreakers of this kind in the world.

The main task of these vessels is to provide year-round navigation in the western region of the Arctic and they will form the backbone of Russia's civilian icebreaking fleet in the coming years, said the USC.
