RABAT, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Moroccan and Spanish security services dismantled on Tuesday in a joint raid a terrorist cell affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) militant group that was operating in the city of Nador in nothern Morocco and the Spanish enclave of Melilla.

According to a statement by the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation, Morocco's intelligence bureau, the joint security operation with the General Commissariat of Intelligence of the Spanish National Police, led to the arrest of two individuals in the city of Nador, and nine other members of the same terrorist cell in the city of Melilla, the Spanish enclave in North Africa bordering Morocco.

Preliminary investigation showed that the members of the cell were promoting extremist ideology via the internet and recruiting people to join terrorist groups, it said.

The operation illustrates the importance of collaboration between Morocco and Spain in the fight against terrorism and extremism, and to safeguard the security of both countries, it added.
