ANKARA, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- The number of foreign visitors arriving in Türkiye saw a 58.3-percent increase year-on-year in August to 6.3 million, the data from the Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry showed on Friday.
The number of foreign visitors to Türkiye in the first eight months of the year climbed by 108.5 percent to 29.3 million compared to the same time last year.
With a share of 13.6 percent, Germany was atop countries sending tourists last month, followed by Russia, 12.8 percent, and Britain, 8.7 percent. Britain was followed by Bulgaria and Iran.
In the first eight months, Germany also held the top spot by sending 3.85 million tourists to Türkiye, or 13.13 percent of the total. Russia came in second with 3 million tourists and a 10.2-percent share, followed by Britain with 2.4 million tourists and a 8.1-percent share.
The number of foreign tourists in Türkiye is already back to pre-pandemic levels. The country was aiming for 47 million tourists and 37 billion U.S. dollars in tourism revenues this year, said Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Ersoy in early July.
The weakening of the Turkish currency against the U.S. dollar and the euro since the start of 2021 has also made Türkiye a popular tourist destination. ■
