ANKARA, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Turkish intelligence detained two senior members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in an operation on the Türkiye-Iraq borderline, the state-run TRT broadcaster reported on Friday.

One of the PKK members was Atilla Cicek, who was wanted on a red notice and responsible for the PKK's activities in Iraq and Iran, according to the TRT.

He was one of the perpetrators of the 2012 bomb attack in Türkiye's eastern Tunceli province that killed seven people, including six soldiers. He was also among the perpetrators of the 2020 attack in eastern Agri province that killed two soldiers.

The other PKK member Huseyin Yildirim was an executive responsible for operations in Iraq and Syria, the TRT reported.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the United States, and the European Union, has rebelled against the Turkish government for more than three decades.

The Turkish forces frequently carry out ground operations, airstrikes, and artillery bombardments against the group's positions in northern Iraq, especially the Qandil Mountains, the main base of the PKK.
