MADRID, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Jay Vine (Alpecin-Deceuninck) won a chaotic sixth stage of the Vuelta a Espana on Thursday in a tough mountain stage which was made more difficult by heavy rain and mist.
Vine rode away on the Pico de Jano climb, finishing 20 seconds ahead of Remco Evenepoel, who produced a powerful ride and was the day's second big winner.
Evenepoel's ride makes him the sixth overall leader in six stages after the overnight leader Rudy Molard (FDJ-Groupama) was dropped on the penultimate climb.
The stage started outside Athletic Club Bilbao's San Mames Stadium under cloudy skies and the riders were soon forced to race in a fine rain, which complicated conditions.
The slippery service saw four riders, including Israel Premier Tech's Fredrik Hagen (who had to withdraw because of injury), hit the floor with 44 kilometers left to ride. ■
