FRANKFURT, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- German energy group Uniper on Wednesday reported a loss of more than 12 billion euros (12.2 billion U.S. dollars) in the first half of the year.
About 6.5 billion euros of the losses were related to interruptions in gas deliveries from Russia, the company said in a statement.
Uniper said it expects a "substantial negative result" for 2022, but it could not issue a forecast for this year "within an adequate range" due to "the volatile environment."
The company's chief financial officer (CFO) Tiina Tuomela said they "expect an improvement in earnings" in 2023 and "aim to exit the loss zone in 2024."
Uniper, Germany's biggest gas importer, has been hit hard by Russia's curtailment of gas exports and filed for support from the German government in July. Under the bailout deal, the German government pledged to take a 30 percent stake in the company and offer the firm up to 7.7 billion euros in financing. (1 euro= 1.02 U.S. dollars) ■
