BERLIN, July 8 (Xinhua) -- German carmaker BMW increased its sales of all-electric vehicles (BEVs) worldwide by 110.3 percent year-on-year to almost 76,000 units in the first half (H1) of 2022, the company said on Friday.
"Despite a very challenging environment, we were able to more than double our sales of fully-electric vehicles worldwide in the first half of the year," Pieter Nota, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, said.
In China, the group's biggest single market, sales of all-electric BMW and MINI vehicles rose by 74.8 percent, according to BMW.
In the first quarter of this year, two in three battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sold worldwide went to customers in China, making it the world's largest market for electric cars, according to auditing and consulting services company PwC Strategy& (Germany).
China also became the biggest single market for German carmakers and accounted for 39 percent of the industry's total vehicle sales in the first quarter, according to consulting firm Ernst & Young (EY). ■
