PARIS, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Diesel price in France reached 2.1345 euros per liter (2.25 U.S. dollars) on Monday, one euro cent shy of the highest recorded fuel price in mid-March, local media reported.

In spite of the discount given by the French government of 0.18 euros per liter (0.19 U.S. dollar), fuel prices have been increasing for a third consecutive week, French news daily Le Figaro reported Monday.

The price of a barrel of Brent Crude Oil dropped to 113 U.S. dollars last Friday and to 112.4 U.S. dollars on Monday afternoon from 124 U.S. dollars a barrel on June 8. This fluctuation can be the result of a slight decrease of raw materials in the markets, according to the report.

Economist Guy Maisonnier of the French Institute of Petroleum (IFP Energies nouvelles) told Le Figaro that the instability of the price of a barrel of Brent Crude Oil can be due to the "degraded economic prospects."

The French government intends to prepare new measures for the upcoming months in order to keep the fuel price discount until August.

But with the results of the legislative elections on Sunday in which President Emmanuel Macron's alliance Ensemble does not have the absolute majority, the new measures might take longer to be put in place as the National Assembly is more divided than before, even if the government wants to react urgently on the issue, Le Figaro predicted.
