LONDON, June 14 (Xinhua) -- British Olympic champion Duncan Scott announced on Tuesday that he is going to miss the upcoming FINA World Championships as he has been struggling to recover from the COVID-19 virus.

Scott was one of the members of the British men's team that won the 4x200m freestyle relay at the Tokyo Olympic Games. The 25-year-old also collected three silver medals from the Games last year.

"I've decided to pull out from the World champs that start this week. Absolutely devastated," said Scott on his social media account.

"Since returning from COVID I've been really struggling with high intensity. Now it's time to put my health first and focus on recovery," he added.

The FINA World Championships is going to be held in Budapest, Hungary from June 18 to July 3 with the swimming competitions held the first week.

Last month, Britain's three-time Olympic swimming champion Adam Peaty had announced that he was forced to withdraw from the World Championships due to a foot injury.
