SOFIA, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Bulgaria's inflation rose in May by 15.6 percent year on year, the country's National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Wednesday.
This is the highest annual rise since May 1998, when the figure stood at 18.8 percent, NSI data showed.
The monthly inflation in May 2022 was 1.2 percent. This is lower than the corresponding figures for April and March, which stood at 2.5 percent and 2.2 percent, respectively,
Prices of transport, as well as food and non-alcoholic beverages, contributed most to the inflation in Bulgaria.
In May, transport prices rose by 3.2 percent over the previous month, and by 32.6 percent over the same period last year. The prices for food and non-alcoholic beverage rose by 1.8 percent on a monthly basis and 22.7 percent on an annual basis. ■
