COPENHAGEN, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Greenland's centrist-populist pro-independence Naleraq party has decided to quit the ruling coalition with the Inuit Ataqatigiit (IA) party, IA's Chairman and Greenland's Prime Minister Mute B. Egede said on Monday.

"We and Naleraq have been pulling further and further apart politically," he told local journalists. "Now we will form a new coalition to work together to ensure better conditions for the citizens."

The IA, the largest political party in Greenland's parliament, and the social democratic Siumut, the second-largest party, agreed to work together over the weekend.

According to their agreement, they will work to advance civic freedoms, expand employment opportunities and increase pensioner benefits.

The two parties hold 22 of the 31 seats in Greenland's Parliament, and will thus enjoy a comfortable majority in government.

Greenland is a self-governing region within the Kingdom of Denmark, with two seats in the Danish Parliament. The IA and the Siumut each hold one seat there.
