ATHENS, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Private and public investment in Greece reached a record 4.85 billion euros (5.54 billion U.S. dollars) of support in total from the European Investment Bank Group, officials announced Tuesday.
The support by the lending arm of the European Union to Greece in 2021 was the largest throughout its 59 years of operation in the country, a significant rise from 2.8 billion euros (3.2 billion dollars) in 2020.
The Group's financing in Greece last year represented 2.7 percent of national gross domestic product, the largest engagement in any country worldwide, according to its press release.
The support was mainly for investments in innovation, urban renewal, energy transition and digitalization of public services, it added. ■
