MOSCOW, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- China has made great achievements over the past five years and it is expected to be more successful in the coming five years, Yuri Tavrovsky, head of the Expert Council of the Russian-Chinese Committee for Friendship, Peace and Development, has said.

China's 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) can only be assessed "positively" despite trade frictions and the COVID-19 pandemic, said Tavrovsky.

"On the whole, the targets of the five-year plan have been successfully met. The main achievements in this period of time are that China is set to complete the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects and eradicate absolute poverty by the end of 2020," he told Xinhua in a recent interview.

"In addition, China has managed to defeat the coronavirus and life has largely returned to normal," Tavrovsky added.

Although the external situation is not quite favorable, the Russian scholar believes that difficulties will be overcome and the goals of China's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) will be successfully achieved.

In his view, China's achievements during the 13th Five-Year Plan and the coming 14th Five-Year Plan are important for Russia.

"This gives us a chance to intensify our economic ties. More significantly, we can study and reflect upon the Chinese experience," he said. Enditem
