NEW DELHI, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Seven people, including four women and three children, were killed when an 18-wheeler truck ran over them in India's eastern state of Jharkhand early Friday morning, local police confirmed.
The mishap was reported from the state's Khunti district.
According to preliminary reports, the truck driver was under the influence of alcohol and driving the vehicle rashly. The victims had gathered by the roadside to help a two-wheeler rider who had fallen into the bushes near a culvert after losing control of his vehicle, when they were hit by the truck at high speed.
Six persons were killed on the spot, while one child died after being admitted to a local hospital, local police said, adding the truck driver has been arrested. ■
