NEW DELHI, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- A fire broke out Friday in four coaches of a passenger train in the northern Indian state of Punjab, with no one hurt in the incident, officials said.
The fire broke out on the train near Sarai Banjara railway station in Patiala district, about 87 km southwest of Chandigarh, the capital city of Punjab. The train was running from Amritsar to New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal.
Visuals aired on television news channels show thick smoke emerging from train coaches. The blaze caused panic among the passengers who disembarked from the coaches.
The exact cause of the fire was not immediately known. However, reports suggest the fire was triggered by a short circuit. ■
