ISLAMABAD, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Two terrorists, including a suicide bomber, were killed and another injured in a police operation in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police said on Wednesday.
The operation was launched after police received reports of a suspicious car with tinted windows in Lakki Marwat district.
Police said the suspects opened fire on officers upon their arrival, prompting a retaliatory response that killed two occupants of the vehicle. An injured suspect escaped.
Weapons, ammunition, a flag of the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and other suspicious items were recovered from the vehicle. Initial assessments suggested the suspects were planning a major terrorist attack, which was foiled by the timely police action.
Police and the Counter Terrorism Department launched a search operation to track down the fleeing suspect and identify the deceased. ■
