KABUL, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Afghan forces launched retaliatory strikes after Pakistan's armed forces carried out drone strikes on Afghanistan's border areas on Tuesday, causing casualties among Pakistani personnel, Afghanistan's Ministry of Defense said in a statement on Wednesday.
The Pakistani armed forces conducted four drone strikes on a border commissariat and adjacent security installations in Afghanistan's Paktika province on Tuesday, the ministry said.
In response, Afghan defense and security personnel deployed nearby launched retaliatory strikes against a Pakistani military base in the vicinity and several outposts.
The ministry said the operations caused casualties among Pakistani personnel and inflicted substantial damage on Pakistani military infrastructure. No Afghan casualties were reported.
Fighting broke out along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border in February, after which tensions between the two countries escalated. ■
