NEW DELHI, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- At least three people were killed and dozens of houses damaged as a powerful cyclone struck India's eastern coast on Wednesday, bringing heavy rain and strong winds, authorities said.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the severe cyclonic storm Arnab made landfall in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh early on Wednesday, with its center then moving fully inland.
Andhra Pradesh has been the most affected, and three people have been killed, a senior official of India's National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Narendra Singh Bundela, told the media.
Of the three deaths, two were caused by electrocution, officials said.
The cyclone left a trail of destruction, uprooting several trees and power poles, leading to power outages in several areas as it crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast.
Authorities have deployed nearly 40 NDRF teams to regions along India's east coast to manage the impact of the cyclone. ■
