KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's producer price index (PPI) for local production rose 10.8 percent year on year in the third quarter of 2026, accelerating from a 7.4 percent increase in the previous quarter, official data showed on Wednesday.

The increase was driven by growth across all sectors, particularly mining, which rose 41.9 percent, and manufacturing, which increased 8.8 percent, the Department of Statistics Malaysia said in a statement.

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, the PPI rose 2.8 percent in the third quarter, slowing from a 6.8 percent increase in the second quarter, supported mainly by a 3.6 percent rise in the manufacturing sector.

Meanwhile, the PPI for local production increased 12 percent year on year in September 2026, up from 10.7 percent in August. ■
