KABUL, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Police have arrested 12 people for illegally excavating historical sites and searching for relics and treasures in the northern Afghan province of Jawzjan, the provincial police office said in a statement on Wednesday.
The 12 individuals were digging hilltops in Kohistan district in search of historical relics and other treasures when police apprehended them for investigation, the statement said.
Police have also arrested several individuals on suspicion of hunting rare birds in the area, the statement added. ■
