MELBOURNE, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- A man has died after he was shot in the northern suburbs of Melbourne on Tuesday night, with police investigating whether the attack was targeted.
A police statement on Wednesday said that emergency services were called to the shooting in the suburb of Reservoir, 11 km north of central Melbourne, around 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday.
Police said that the death of the 55-year-old victim was being treated as suspicious and detectives from the homicide squad were investigating. The man, identified by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) as Elias Serevetas, was lured out of a relative's home before being shot repeatedly in the upper body, ABC reported.
A short time after the shooting, a black Lexus used by the gunman was found burnt out in nearby Thomastown, with a white Toyota Corolla seen leaving the scene of the fire, according to ABC.
Police were also investigating the victim's possible links to serious and organized crime and whether the killing was connected to other recent shootings in Melbourne, ABC reported.
The gunman remained at large as of Wednesday afternoon. ■
