KABUL, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Police have arrested six people on suspicion of illegal logging in the western Afghan province of Badghis, the provincial police office said in a statement on Saturday.
The suspects were cutting down trees in the Jawand and Tagab-e-Alam areas when police arrested them recently, according to the statement.
The six suspects will be handed over to the judiciary after the completion of a preliminary investigation, the statement said, adding that stern action would be taken against anyone who violates the law by engaging in deforestation.
As part of efforts to protect the natural environment and greenery, the Afghan government has banned illegal logging, deforestation, and the hunting of birds and wild animals across the country. ■
