SINGAPORE, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's core inflation eased to 2 percent year-on-year in September, from 2.2 percent in August, due to lower services and retail and other goods inflation, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry said on Friday.

Headline consumer price index (CPI) inflation also moderated to 2.2 percent from 2.3 percent, reflecting lower core and private transport inflation, they said in a statement.

On a month-on-month basis, core prices rose 0.1 percent in September, while headline CPI increased 0.2 percent.

MAS expects imported cost pressures to remain firm in the near term, as energy prices rise and global and regional food prices pick up. However, imported inflation should ease in 2027 as temporary supply disruptions fade.

Domestic price pressures are expected to remain subdued, supported by productivity gains and government subsidies for healthcare and education.

Core inflation is expected to remain slightly elevated in the coming quarters before easing more noticeably from mid-2027. ■
