HANOI, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Vietnamese government has proposed designating Nov. 24 as Vietnam Culture Day, a new annual paid public holiday, under draft amendments to the Labor Code submitted to the National Assembly on Wednesday, Vietnam Television reported.
The Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee previously issued a resolution calling for Nov. 24 to be designated as Vietnam Culture Day and observed as a paid public holiday, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Tien Hai said the proposal aims to incorporate the resolution into labor legislation, the report added.
If approved, the new holiday could take effect this year, increasing the country's total number of paid public holidays from 11 to 12 days annually. ■
