SINGAPORE, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore), Sweden-headquartered telecommunications and networks company Ericsson and Sweden's KTH Royal Institute of Technology are collaborating to develop positioning technologies using artificial intelligence (AI) and sixth-generation (6G) mobile networks.

The research aims to improve the accuracy and reliability of location tracking for robots, drones and other autonomous systems in complex indoor and outdoor environments, including areas where signals are obstructed, NTU said in a statement on Monday.

The initiative, which begins in November 2026, will combine established positioning methods with AI and automated antenna calibration to improve location estimates.

The new technologies could support applications in healthcare, airports, ports, manufacturing, logistics and smart cities, as well as emergency response operations, according to the statement. ■
