CANBERRA, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Australia's media regulator on Monday published initial industry guidance on new rules banning celebrities, professional athletes and social media influencers from appearing in gambling advertisements from Jan. 1, 2027.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) said the ban would apply across all platforms, including television, radio, news websites, online games and social media.

Under the new rules, gambling advertisements must not feature "notable people," including current or former professional athletes, celebrities, social media influencers and other prominent individuals.

Licensed online wagering providers will also be prohibited from entering into sponsorship or promotional arrangements involving such individuals from the same date.

The ACMA said the guidance was intended to help the industry understand and prepare for the new requirements, including relevant exemptions. ■
