PHNOM PENH, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Youths play a crucial role in shaping the future of China-ASEAN relations and driving regional cooperation, acting as a vital bridge for sustaining long-term stability and economic partnership, a Cambodian scholar said on Sunday.

Kin Phea, director general of the International Relations Institute of Cambodia (IRIC), a think tank under the Royal Academy of Cambodia, highlighted that both China and ASEAN possess long histories and rich cultural civilizations.

"As the geopolitical landscape evolves, empowering the next generation with open dialogue and shared goals is essential for building a more interconnected and resilient regional community," Phea told Xinhua.

His comments came just before leading a delegation of ASEAN students to the fourth China-ASEAN Excellent Youth Summer Camp (CAEYSC), scheduled for Oct. 18 to 24 in central China's Henan Province.

Phea said that as China-ASEAN relations continue to deepen, people-to-people exchanges have become increasingly important.

"Promoting youth exchange will help build networks, mutual trust, and lasting friendship among future leaders of the region," he said.

The annual CAEYSC is jointly organized by the IRIC and the College of Political Science and Public Administration of Henan Normal University.

"This event will deepen participants' understanding of China and Chinese culture, history, and civilization, while also promoting appreciation of the diverse cultures and traditions of ASEAN countries," Phea said.

The event combines academic exchange with unique opportunities to develop leadership, communication, and diplomatic skills.

Phea said the academic activities will include in-depth discussions on China-ASEAN cooperation, Lancang-Mekong cooperation, China's development, and shared regional challenges such as water resource management and climate change.

Cultural immersion forms an integral part of the week-long program, he said, adding that participants will take part in a campus cultural tour and enjoy hands-on experiences with Chinese tea culture and calligraphy. ■
