YANGON, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) - A total of 134 Myanmar group tourists and 98 business travelers took Myanmar Airways International's inaugural Yangon-Chengdu flight on Thursday, establishing a direct air link between Myanmar's Yangon and Chengdu in southwest China's Sichuan Province, Han Jiajun, director of the China Cultural Center in Yangon told Xinhua on Friday.
The new route has improved air connectivity between the two destinations, reducing travel time and costs while facilitating cross-border exchanges in tourism, trade, investment and business cooperation, he said.
Combined with policy advantages such as the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, the new route is expected to facilitate exchanges in culture and tourism, trade, industrial investment, enterprise cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between the two regions, he added.
It will also provide support for Chengdu-based enterprises seeking to explore the Myanmar market and deepen economic and trade cooperation between Sichuan and Myanmar, he said.
The route is planned to operate three flights per week, but is currently operating three flights every two weeks, he said. ■
