BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) --The contribution of Brunei's non-oil and gas sector to gross domestic product (GDP) increased from 46 percent in 2015 to 55 percent in 2025, a government minister said recently.
The share of non-oil and gas commodities in the country's exports also rose significantly from 7 percent to 60 percent over the same period, said Haji Abdul Manaf Haji Metussin, coordinating minister for economic policies and minister of economy, trade and industry, according to official media Pelita Brunei on Friday.
Speaking at the Baiduri Momentum Summit 2026 held near the capital, he attributed the increase largely to the expansion of downstream petroleum and chemical products.
The minister stressed that Brunei must move beyond reacting to global economic developments and instead anticipate emerging trends, strengthen economic resilience and seize opportunities to diversify its economy.
He said economic diversification remained central to achieving the third goal of Brunei Vision 2035, which aims to build a dynamic and sustainable economy.
Held under the theme "Unlocking Opportunities in a Changing World," the Baiduri Momentum Summit 2026 brings together policymakers, business leaders and industry experts to discuss economic and market developments affecting the region. ■
