PHNOM PENH, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia saw a significant 23 percent rise in the export of bicycles and electric bicycles during the first nine months of 2026, driven by expanding international orders and deeper integration into regional supply chains.

Data provided by the Ministry of Commerce on Thursday showed that the Southeast Asian nation exported bicycles and electric bicycles worth 552 million U.S. dollars from January to September. This marks a substantial increase from the 448 million dollars recorded during the same period last year.

Ministry of Commerce's Secretary of State and Spokesperson Penn Sovicheat said that the shipments were primarily destined for major Western markets, including the United States, European countries, Canada, and Australia.

"Bicycles and electric bicycles have grown into one of Cambodia's major manufactured exports, joining garments, footwear, travel goods, and car tires," he told Xinhua.

Thong Mengdavid, deputy director at the China-ASEAN Studies Center of the Cambodia University of Technology and Science, attributed the surge to the country's robust manufacturing momentum and a rising global demand for eco-friendly transit.

"Growth is boosted by improved access to regional supply chains and expanding orders from key markets," he said, adding that bicycles continue to gain traction as a clean, green option for the environment. ■
