SYDNEY, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Police said on Wednesday that a man has been charged with murder over the September shooting of a child in northwest Sydney.
The 12-year-old boy died in hospital days after he was shot in the face and neck at a unit in Sydney's northwest suburbs on the evening of Sept. 21.
A police statement on Wednesday said that nine other people who were in the home at the time of the incident were not injured. Three 18-year-old men were arrested at the time, with two released by police and the third charged with concealing a serious indictable offense.
Following an investigation, homicide squad detectives on Tuesday arrested a 19-year-old man, who was 18 at the time of the incident, at a prison in western Sydney and charged him with murder.
Superintendent Naomi Moore said at the time of the shooting that people who were present at the home were known to police for organized crime links, but that the incident was not believed to be related to ongoing conflicts between Sydney organized crime gangs. ■
