PHNOM PENH, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia saw a 16.4-percent rise in revenue from the exports of bananas, mangoes, and longans during the first nine months of 2026, driven by strong Chinese demand and preferential tariff agreements.

The Southeast Asian nation generated 312.17 million U.S. dollars from the exports of these commodities during the January-September period this year, up from the 268 million dollars recorded during the same period last year, a Ministry of Commerce report showed on Wednesday.

The report detailed varying performances across the three major fruit categories. Banana exports climbed 35.7 percent to 180.33 million dollars, and mangoes ticked up 0.12 percent to 108.25 million dollars. Conversely, longan revenues fell 12.6 percent to 23.59 million dollars.

Thong Mengdavid, deputy director of the China-ASEAN Studies Center at the Cambodia University of Technology and Science, said the overall jump in fruit exports reflected Cambodia's rapid shift from traditional farming to a modern, commercial agri-export hub.

"I believe the fruit industry is poised for double-digit annual growth, provided Cambodia continues expanding local processing facilities such as drying and juice manufacturing to buffer against seasonal price shifts," he told Xinhua. ■
